A shortlist, not a popularity list
The best bottle depends on what you want to taste and what you can actually buy. This shortlist starts with our own ratings, then shows the Japanese shelf reality beside them.
Ratings are editorial and scored consistently across the archive. They are not an average of online reviews.

If you want a high-strength blend with a different shape, Nikka From The Barrel is compelling even though it does not meet the JSLMA Japanese whisky standard.
Use the availability label before using the word “best”. In Japan, allocated and lottery-only bottles can be harder to buy than their overseas price suggests.
