Japanese Whisky Price in Japan: How Much Bottles Actually Cost

· updated

There is no single Japanese whisky price in Japan. A bottle can be an ordinary shop item, an airport duty-free product, an allocated release, or a lottery bottle. Those are different buying situations, even when the numbers appear beside each other in a table.

Four useful price levels

Everyday blends: Suntory Torys is ¥900 in our current record. Kakubin is ¥1,500. These are the bottles that explain why a Japanese highball does not need to be expensive.

Export-friendly blends: Suntory Toki is ¥3,200 on an ordinary Japanese shelf. It is designed for export, which is one reason its overseas price gap is relatively small.

Recognised single malts: Yamazaki 12 is ¥16,800 in our observed Japan shop record. It is allocated, not a guaranteed supermarket find.

Aged lottery bottles: Hibiki 21 is ¥120,000 and marked lottery-only. That is not a walk-in shelf price, so comparing it with a freely available overseas bottle can mislead you.

Airport duty-free prices need their own label. The Chita at ¥5,700 and Suntory Old at ¥3,350 are useful dated references, but neither number should be read as the universal domestic retail price.

Use the price bands and availability index together. Price without buying context is only half the answer.

Prices checked August 2026. Each figure carries its source and price context on the bottle record.
