Is it Japanese whisky?

Does not meet the JSLMA standard, usually because some of the liquid was distilled outside Japan. Several producers say so openly — this is a statement about the category a bottle belongs to, not about its quality.

How it tastes

The most common way to drink whisky from Japan's smallest distillery. It is a world malt by design — Nagahama's own spirit meets imported malt — so it honestly does not meet the JSLMA standard. That makes it a good bottle for learning what the labelling rule actually means.
