Mars Maltage Cosmo: What It Is and What It Costs in Japan
Mars Maltage Cosmo is a blended malt from Mars Shinshu, not a single malt. It is a useful middle bottle: more layered than an everyday blend, less narrowly defined than a distillery single malt.
The current Japan reference in our database is ¥4,100 at airport duty-free. That is a travel-retail snapshot, not a universal domestic shelf price.
What “Cosmo” means here
The name comes from the mountain range visible from Mars Shinshu in Nagano. The whisky is built from malt whisky rather than grain whisky, but it combines spirit from more than one source, which is why it is labelled blended malt.
That matters when comparing it with Mars Komagatake. Komagatake is a single malt from the same broader Mars system. Cosmo is broader and softer, with fruit, oak and a lighter centre.
How it compares with Mars Iwai
Mars Iwai is an everyday blend at ¥1,800 in our Japan record. Cosmo costs more because it is a malt-led expression with a more deliberate cask and flavour structure.
Choose Iwai for a simple highball. Choose Cosmo when you want to drink neat without moving straight to a premium single malt.
Our current record marks Cosmo as undeclared under the JSLMA standard. That is not a negative classification; it means we have not found an explicit producer statement and will not guess.
